About Us

We are a recently married, mid-west, fixed income couple. Our primary focus is on doing nothing in particular, but doing it well.

Marla has been a stay at home mom, successfully raising two daughters. They are now raising their own “adorables”, and are trying to figure out how pre-school, little boys can be so mischievous and so innocently create such havoc. She is a staunch participant, and sometimes teacher, in the local Jackie Sorensen Aerobic Dance classes. Marla’s thoughts of a career in interior decorating are behind her, lasting only long enough to take a few classes and go to Paris under the guise of continuing her education.

Bill enjoyed a career with General Motors in the Metal Fabricating Division, working in three different factories and doing two stints in headquarters. He now looks forward to days without deadlines and continual crisis resolution. After experiencing a heart attack while dealing with the stress of being the plant manager of the closing of Kalamazoo Stamping Plant, his retirement in 2000 opened the door for new endeavours. One year of substitute teaching eliminated thoughts of a second career in education. Six years of volunteering, three as president, with a public education foundation, are also in the rear view mirror. He also has two daughters. One recently graduated from the University of Michigan and is contemplating teaching English abroad. The other is wrapping up her studies at Western Michigan University, wondering what is next.

For us, entertainment, beyond the normal activities with family and friends, centers around travel, including cruising, occasional fine dining, playing golf  and an annual bare-boat sailing adventure . We utilize all forms of transportation. When driving, we rely primarily on AAA to route us through on a loosely structured itinerary. For long distance trips, the airlines and Amtrak get us from our home in Denver closer to our final destination. Occasionally, for extended, long distance trips, we often drive – although the only part of our Eastbound trip we look forward to is the 75 mph speed limit in eastern Colorado and Nebraska!

We enjoy being somewhat frugal, utilizing mid range motels and value oriented establishments. Sometimes, however, we splurge by visiting a cozy B & B,  a trendy, upscale restaurant, or a nationally recognized golf course. And yes, we realize that bare-boating is not exactly a low cost travel option.

Our view of the years ahead is that we want to take advantage of the freedom we now enjoy, “having the time of our lives”. We won’t, however, live so lavishly that our banker will need to be consulted regarding next month’s groceries, yet we won’t skimp so much that we will miss having the fun we desire.

What you can expect from our website is a “she said/he said” account of where we stay, what we do, where we eat and an occasional travel tip. Our “bucket list” is rather tame. Generally we don’t do anything that might harm our not so well preserved bodies. Things like parachuting from airplanes, rock climbing, strenuous hiking, camping in any way, shape or form are off limits. So, perhaps from our experiences, you will find places or activities you want to include – or, avoid! – as you plan your “Boomer Trippin” years.

P.S.  New posts will appear on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.

P.P.S. To read more about how we met and our first date go to “the arrangement” and “our blind date“.
