The good thing about our daily phone conversations was the undivided attention they afforded. It helped not having any distractions – we actually had to listen to each other! We talked about a wide variety of topics and I felt that I was really getting to know Bill. So, when he suggested we go somewhere for a long weekend, I was, simultaneously, comfortable, yet a bit apprehensive. Although it had been years since my last visit to Savannah, I did enjoy the city and it would certainly be warmer than returning to Michigan, so what the heck, Savannah here I come!
Apprehension began to surface as I got off the plane. I hadn’t seen Bill in over a month. What would my feelings be when I actually saw him? He was sitting in the waiting area and, as I approached, shyness joined my apprehension. After a quick kiss and brief hug, we proceeded to the rental car. When we got to the car he opened my door, looked at me and said, ” Okay, now how about a real kiss?” Wow! That was all I needed. All of my apprehension and shyness just melted away. Our weekend was underway!

I suggested Savannah, Georgia as it was no where near either of us. My nephew had gone to SCAD – Savannah College of Art and Design -and, remembering his impressions, in addition to offering warmer weather than Michigan, it seemed to be a very attractive city. I used a website – Vacation Rentals By Owner – to find a charming condo befitting the momentous occasion this promised to be. We planned on 4 nights and 5 days to take in the sites of the city. The unspoken challenge was how we’d do without relatives or friends to insulate us from any personality quirks that may have been camouflaged in our previous encounters. On this level, it was a total success. Unfortunately, as for taking in the sites, Mother Nature didn’t cooperate. Temperatures were in the mid 50′s and it rained almost continually the whole time we were there!!
