St. Augustine was our next destination, and I have to say, We were not disappointed in this choice! It’s a quaint town just loaded with historic places, lovely accommodations, wonderful little restaurants, and fun things to do. We will visit this town again!
Once again, as we do in most towns, we boarded a trolley for a very informative ride throughout the town. This is a statue of Ponce de Leon- you know the fountain of youth, etc. Can you believe he was only 4’9″, and he was that tall because of his high boots and the plume in his hat. That made him the tallest person on his ship and therefore the Captain! The Spaniards were short little people!
This is one of the little back streets in the town, and as you can see it is raining!
We rounded a corner and had to take a picture of this beautifully tree lined street. Too bad the garbage cans were there—oh well…….

This is the fun part of “boomer trippin”. Our visit to St Augustine evolved as we mapped out what we’d do after Disney World before heading to Ohio and Michigan to visit family. We looked at the map, chose what would be an easy 1 day drive and then looked to see where we might be, and, walla – first the Keys for some rest, then St. Augustine for some history, then Ashville for the Biltmore before family and friends! A couple of nights in each spot made the travel a little less taxing, although living out of a suitcase does get a bit old after a while.
Anyway, our stay in St Augustine was delightful as there are tons of things to do and see. Our next 6 posts will detail what we enjoyed in this wonderful city.
