The Bird-Baldwin House – Savannah, Georgia

October 19, 2009

Bird Baldwin exterior

The Bird-Baldwin House, originally constructed in 1838 as a private residence, has been completely remodeled very recently. It is centrally located and has every modern convenience. Our unit was on the top floor, three flights of stairs up! One enters through the full kitchen before reaching a large living area/dining room with a wonderful fireplace. The spacious and modern bathroom had a large Jacuzzi and a nice shower. It is, however, separated from the bedroom by the living room. This might be a bit awkward if there were more than the two of us. The bedroom, too, is wonderful. The period furnishings are highlighted by a very comfortable, four-poster bed that faces another fireplace. The huge windows offer plenty of light as well as views of the surrounding neighborhood, and, the walk in closet provides plenty of space. The rental rates begin around $100 per night, depending on the unit and season, but there are no one night rentals.

Where we stayed

marlaI was very happy with the Bird-Baldwin house. The condo was very spacious and clean and the location was great. We were within walking distance of the trolleys, and some of the attractions. Even though the fireplace was out-of-order (bummer!), I really liked the condo and would definitely stay there again.

billI arrived a couple of hours before Marla and was able to get somewhat familiar with the lay of the land before meeting her at the airport. I was totally satisfied with the Bird-Baldwin House. Oh no! The note taped to fireplace instructions say it’s temporarily out-of-order. Darn. But, aha, the one in the bedroom works, so that will do just fine! I’m off to find a store to get flowers (I chose red roses), snacks and adult beverages to provide relief when waiting out the incessant rain!
